The 2011 Psycho Donuts 13-Month Calendar!
All dates are the same for March 1?December 31, 2016!
Wow Cool has teamed up with Silicon Valley’s notorious Psycho Donuts and sixteen acclaimed artists to create the must-have wall calendar for 2011. This 12″ x 12″ beauty is printed in full color on heavy and quite glossy paper stock and features the full dates for the Chinese year of the rabbit (in other words, as a bonus, you get January 2012 in all its apocalyptic glory). Psycho Donuts’ nurse-garbed waitstaff (and a few guests, like world champion kickboxer Jenna Castillo) appear in the calendar photographed in a variety of evocative scenes; from being covered in bubble wrap to a full-on zombie nurse apocalypse! The artists whose work is featured include a number of Wow Cool regulars like Simon Gane (Paris, Dark Rain, Vinyl Underground) and Mark Martin (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teeny Weeny in Nickelodeon Magazine) and a bunch of local favorites who have exhibited their work at Psycho Donut’s shop in Campbell, California. Among this latter group is local art hero and Psycho Donuts art curator Christine Benjamin, ‘Robots & Donuts’ art star Eric Joyner and body painter extraordinaire Trina Merry with a fresh take on the four horse(wo)men of the apocalypse.
The artists: Ben Jackson, Christine Benjamin, David Hartman, Eric Joyner, Infinity from Endless Love Crew, Ian Lynam, Jared Konopitski, Lacey Bryant, Laura Callin Bennett, Mark Martin, MCA Evil Design, Michael Foley, Nicolas Caesar, Simon Gane, Simon Salas, Steven Cerio and Trina Merry
The calendar includes monthly coupons for Psycho Donuts as well as great discounts at Camera 3 Cinema, San Jose ComedySportz and Tandoori Oven. Total value estimated at $66!
Psycho Nurse! is also ridiculously useful and informative. Literally over a thousand notable birth dates are listed from the realms of art, music, film, science, politics and local legend. Many seasonal and atmospheric events are given a nod and most popular holidays (and several quite odd ones) are detailed. There is also a fair share of educational content from the history of the Bay Area’s oldest mental hospital to the discovery of the radioactive element ‘Californium’.
The calendar is largely the creation of Wow Cool’s main man Marc Arsenault, who conceived the look of it, staged and shot all but one of the photos and designed the whole package. Marc has previously served as art director for comic art publishing legend Fantagraphics Books – where he designed and co-edited their Vaughn Bodé Library series and Robert Williams’ Malicious Resplendence coffee table book; and, was long the head of art and marketing for Fremont’s martial arts equipment manufacturing giant Tiger Claw.
PSYCHO DONUTS™ is the world’s premiere asylum for wayward donuts. Psycho Donuts has created donut versions of everything from hamburgers, French fries, pizza and tacos to ice cream sandwiches. Fresh, original donuts topped with strawberries, malted milk balls, graham crackers , rice puffs and much more are served daily by the fully qualified nursing staff.
Psycho Donuts has quickly become a Bay Area icon, and has been featured in Maxim Magazine, American Way Magazine, Bon Appétit Magazine, Fox Business News, USA Today, The BBC, Food Network Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, and many more!
