More Fuel for yr Barbeque

Welcome back, pilgrim. Sorry again about the long silence. We have not been idle. Oh no. The Wow Cool HQ has been positively abuzz with activity. No, nothing like the massive yellow jacket invasion of 2004. OK, let’s try to round up what’s new.

First off, you do not want to miss out on the long awaited release of Tom Hart’s first all new book of comics in some time, the mighty and bittersweet Daddy Lightning from Retrofit Comics.

Daddy Lightning by Tom Hart

We seem to suddenly have a full page of comics by Graham Annable. You are advised to quickly get up to speed on the world of Grickle by reading our comprehensive report.

The blog postings of my hombre Steve Bissette are never to be missed, but he really warmed our hearts by giving a deep reading of Michael DeForge’s Lose #3 in his latest posting. He brings some context that Michael may not even be aware of. We still may have a couple copies of it available as you read this, and more are on the way. Michael’s books tend to sell out real quick, so, grab ’em while they’re hot. Steve promisses many more comic reviews coming up of works both old and new, so keep an eye out for that. Oh, and if you haven’t been, you want to make sure and keep up with Ant Comic – Michael’s longest full color work since — the sadly out-of-print but available to see online at What Things Do — Spotting Dear.

And, in related news, a few of Mr. S.R. Bissette’s comics have also recently flowed into the shop. Many more — including a couple of surprises — are coming soon. Most of the new additions of older books can be found on the New Back Issues page of the shop. Books are added nearly every day as the shop continues to expand.

Speaking of online comics, you must go and read (or re-read) Dan Clowes’ Modern Cartoonist now.

More reading of words for you: “How Cartoon Network Became a Haven for Some of the Best Independent Comic Book Creators Working Today” by Shannon O’Leary at Publishers Weekly. When I met up with some of the alt cartoonists that make Adventure Time at last year’s APE (as detailed in this report) I had no idea how deeply embedded in TV animation this fifth column was.

Keep Calm And Carry On.

Oh… and bring a towel.
