Team Wow Cool made the trip to DTSJ – Downtown San Jose, specifically to SoFA (South of First Area. What? Really, that’s what it stands for?) for the South First Fridays Art Walk last night. The event skipped July, so this was sort of the last hurrah before Fall creeps in… as far distant as that still seems. It was packed with lots to see and buy and eat. We started at the low end near where Market meets First, where the food trucks dwell, and crept up First to the de facto end at Caffe Frascati… which was hosting opera night. Yes. OPERA.
First stop was the always excellent Takoz Mod Mex food truck, which now sports some stylish Wow Cool stickers.
We had no idea what to expect on the walk and we were way more than happily surprised to discover many old (and new) comics and zine friends displaying their wares on the walk. The big focus being the Art of The Zines tent. Another surprise was the excellent zine display by Japantown San Jose’s Petite Galleria.
Ivy Atoms – creator of Pinky and Pepper Forever was there, as well as Psycho Nurse Calendar contributor Michael Foley, comic artist Mark Badger, and ‘late of Chicago’ comic artist Kyle Harter. We also paid a visit to Grace Talice Lee, and multi-disciplinary electronic sound and visual artist Joshua Curry. Kyle’s book Boundaries and Joshua’s cassette “Lucidbeaming — Sympathy” will be available in the Cupertino Wow Cool shop from today.
