Jason Martin is a musician and video artist.
Jason has an experimental pop band and studio under the name Magic Recording
Eye, and he plays guitar for futuristic synth-pop rockers Denim and
Diamonds. Jason sits in with various other groups on bass, drums, amplified
found objects, etc., and has been known to battle DJ's with his reel-to-reel
tape recorders.
At Magic Recording Eye Studio, Jason produces bands and composes music for
dance and theater--performed at venues such as Merce Cunningham Theater
(NYC), The Kitchen (NYC), eba Dance Theater (Albany, NY).
Jason's video works have shown in festivals internationally, with the video
project and band Brown Cuts Neighbors, from 1989 - 2002. This work
consisted of abstract video pieces with shorting-out video mixers, sci-fi
adventures, and fake documentaries. This large group of artists and
musicians started out as a band formed by Jason and Colleen Martin, ages 6
and 4, respectively. It grew over the years releasing music, staging
theatrical cartoonish performances in theaters and on street corners alike,
and had a public access television show in Schenectady NY for 10 years.
Currently, Jason Martin is working on writings, research, and a performance
series investigating connections between apparently disparate cultural
elements (American history, discarded technology, popular music, urban
myths, etc) and attempting to define a previously un-discovered territory
hidden within the modern cultural landscape.
