Three Jack Kirby Avengers Panels

I unexpectedly had the chance to catch up on some reading last month and for some unknown reason read the first few issue of the Avengers that were drawn by Jack Kirby. These are screen grabs from the ComiXology editions I read. Note the bright coloring. They looked a lot different from that when they first saw print. There were a few panels like this that were quite striking on their own that I saved.
They were a strange, but fairly enjoyable read. Several of the early stories involved the villain trying to use the Hulk to stir up trouble. Since the Hulk is usually somewhere around New Mexico this involved a couple trips cross country, by hammer, by boot jets, by ants… Rick Jones’ Teen Brigade should have gotten their own series.
There will be some sort of special event at the Wow Cool Store in Cupertino on the weekend before August 28 to celebrate 100 years since the birth of Jack Kirby. Details are still coming together. Stay tuned.
