Live Experimental Electronic Music with Evidence & Vibration Institute Orchestra

Evidence is a collaboration between sound artists Stephan Moore and Scott Smallwood, with activities ranging from studio compositions and live improvisations to sound installations, street performances, and numerous collaborations with other musicians, choreographers, and video artists. Since 2001, they have developed a distinctive language of deeply layered sound, using field recordings of natural and industrial sounds as a primary source of inspiration and sonic material.  Recent projects include the participatory performance/installation "Receiver", which broadcasts multi-channel compositions on several closely-tuned FM frequencies to a radio-wielding audience, and "Losperus", a performance of unstable sound sculptures, fashioned improvisationally from discarded household items.

Stephan Moore was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised on the southern shore of Lake Superior in Upper Michigan. He participates as a composer, performer, audio artist, sound designer and curator.  His creative work centers around issues of perception and location, taking shape as electronic studio compositions, improvised solo performances, sound installation works, scores and sound designs for modern dance and theater performances, software development, and the design of multi-channel sound systems for unusual circumstances.

Scott Smallwood was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up at 10,000 feet in elevation in the Colorado Rockies. When Smallwood was 10 years old, his father gave him a cassette tape recorder, and ever since he has been fascinated by the possibilities of recorded sound. His work deals with real and abstracted soundscapes based on a practice of listening, improvisation, and phonography. Ranging from sonic photographs, studio compositions, instrumental pieces, and improvisations, the resulting pieces are often textural, always mindful of space and subtlety.

Vibration Institute Orchestra is an ambient improvisation group led by bassist/dj/composer John Von Seggern. John has performed his unique blend of improvised ambient music at countless clubs, festivals and events in Asia and the US. He works for German music software company Native Instruments and has been a collaborator and music technology consultant for numerous composers and producers in the LA area including Herbie Hancock, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Tavaglione, Paul Haslinger and John Beasley.
