NOISE! 2008
May 8, 2008: 10 p.m. – May 11, 2008: 1 a.m. at Ontological Theater, St. Mark’s Church, 131 E. 10th St., Manhattan, NY $10 admission; free video and audio online.

Noise! is a sound performance festival started in 2005. free103point9 curates for the second year. Each year the “Incubator” program at Ontological Theater hosts a Noise! festival, a three-night multi-arts event designed to promote interest in new forms of sound art.
The festival will feature short compositions and performances by established and emerging artists.
Each evening opens with a Radio 4×4 as the audience enters the theater.
Radio 4×4 is a free103point9 collaborative radio transmission performance. Four simultaneous audio performances are separately sent through FM transmitters to radios positioned throughout a performance space. Each radio receives only one of the signals, so that the audience becomes an active collaborator in the performance, “mixing” the audio feeds by moving about the space among the four signals. Other artists will perform each evening. Tianna Kennedy, Tom Roe, and Damian Catera will curate each evening. Streamed live on free103point9 Online Radio.

More information

Yes folks, its all about me. But heck, I don’t do these around town too often anymore… so dig this:

Two sets: one set electric guitar freakout improv, and the other solo acoustic guitar and voice (that means singing a bunch of new songs and re-worked covers such as my hybrid deer/human dylan song)

Total run time: 8pm to 930ish. Short intermission in there somewhere. Gonna flip a coin right before show to decide which set goes first.

Details:
Thursday, February 28, 2008
POINT 5 (also occasinally referred to as CDFI)
383.5 Madison Ave
Albany, NY 12202
- just a little ways down from Lark street going in the direction of Albanys old red light district, now the Empire State Plaza. Thats what theyre callin it these days.

I’ve arrived at late Monday/early-Tuesday as comic posting time… the rotation of artists will seem a little more regular, and less Jason heavy in the future. Posts might pick up a bit too… been out of town…. gambling… No. OK, yes, gambling. At least I was winning. - Marc A on the footnote tip.

Stupid Pages 2 - Annoying Expressions

Annoying Expressions by Jason Martin, Fall 1991

Tuesday June 27th - WHO IS BOZO TEXINO? a film by Bill Daniel, Bill Daniel IN PERSON! 8 pm. Also: musical set by Captain Coconut with help from Ross Goldstein (Evo Revo/United States of Belt), Jason Martin and Aaron Smith(Evo Revo) at 7:30 pm The Sanctuary for Independent Media, 3361 6th Ave (at 101st St.), Troy, NY
In 1987 Daniel and his trusty Bolex camera began hanging out in hobo jungles and riding freights across the West, looking for clues to the identity of a strange boxcar graffito. While gathering interviews and discovering clues to the identities of many of the most legendary boxcar artists, Daniel discovered a vast underground folkloric practice that has existed with little notice for over a century. Today these drawings live on as a new breed of hobos have taken to the rails and kept the tradition of moniker chalking alive. This artform provides unlikely common ground between mostly conservative railworkers and old school tramps and the kids whose approach includes spray cans and punk lifestyles.
Also screening: Britton S. Dakota by Vanessa Renwick, 2004, 7 min. Depression-era children are hypnotized by the camera in this re-discovered imagery from 1938. Score by Johnne Eschleman. Portland-based filmmaker Vanessa Renwick is Director of Affairs of the Oregon Dept. of Kick Ass.

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT (from MASS MoCA website): “In an age when scientists say they can no longer specify the exact difference between human and animal, living and dead, many contemporary artists have chosen to use animals in their work — as the ultimate “other,” as metaphor, as reflection. The attempt to discover what is animal, not surprisingly, leads to a greater understanding of what it means to be human. In Becoming Animal , 13 internationally known artists investigate the shifting boundaries between animal and hujman. Their explorations may be a barometer of things to come. Artists include: Jane Alexander, Rachel Berwich, Brian Conley, Mark Dion, Sam Easterson, Kathy High, Natalie Jeremijenko and Phil Taylor, Nicholas Lampert, Michael Oatman, Motohiko Odani, Patricia Piccinini, Ann-Sofi Siden, Adam Zaretszy… “
